About Romed Baumann
Retired German (formerly Austrian) World Cup downhill/super-G/combined racer from St. Johann in Tirol, who switched from the Austrian to the German ski federation ahead of the 2019-20 season after being left off Austria's A-team. Made his World Cup debut in 2004 as a junior world downhill champion, won two World Cup races (both super combined, Sestriere 2009 and Chamonix 2012) and 11 podiums overall, and won silver in the super-G at the 2021 World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo racing for Germany. Retired on 28 February 2026 following a downhill race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, finishing his career with a record 167 World Cup downhill starts - the most in World Cup history, surpassing Italy's Kristian Ghedina.
Represented Austria until switching to Germany prior to the 2019-20 season (per Tiroler Tageszeitung reporting). FIS's own biography lists hobbies as 'Puch DS50, Trial, Tennis' and marital status 'Married'. Continued racing at Austrian National/Junior Championships events into late March 2026 (per FIS results) after his World Cup farewell on 28 Feb 2026 - a planned post-retirement domestic tail, not a data inconsistency.
