About Lindsey Vonn

American World Cup alpine ski racer specializing in downhill and super-G, born 18 October 1984, resident in Vail, Colorado and racing for Ski and Snowboard Club Vail. Widely regarded as one of the greatest alpine ski racers in history, she retired in 2019 with what was then a women's record 82 World Cup wins before announcing a comeback in November 2024 following successful knee replacement surgery. Returned to competition on 7 December 2024 (24th, downhill, FIS Fall Festival, Copper Mountain). On 12 December 2025, at age 41, she became the oldest World Cup downhill winner in history with her 83rd career win at St. Moritz, surpassing the previous record held by Didier Cuche (37 years old, 2012). She won her 84th World Cup race in the downhill at Altenmarkt-Zauchensee shortly after, then added 3rd (downhill) and 2nd (super-G) finishes at Tarvisio. Qualified for the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, her fifth Games, on 23 December 2025, but her Olympic campaign was derailed by injury: a crash in the Crans-Montana World Cup downhill on 30 January 2026 led to a confirmed ACL rupture on 3 February, and she competed anyway before crashing again in the Olympic downhill on 8 February 2026 (DNF), sustaining a broken left leg that required medical helicopter evacuation and surgery.

FIS Code 537544. Career World Cup wins: 84 (as of the 2025-26 season), a women's record. Oldest World Cup downhill winner in history, age 41 (St. Moritz, 12 Dec 2025), surpassing Didier Cuche's 2012 record (age 37, men's field). 2025-26 season World Cup podiums per FIS's own tracker: 2 wins, 2 seconds, 3 thirds (7 total). 2026 Olympics: DNF, downhill, following an ACL rupture (confirmed 3 Feb 2026) and a subsequent crash during the Olympic race (8 Feb 2026) that broke her left leg, requiring helicopter evacuation and surgery.
