About Katharina Liensberger
Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer specializing in the technical events of slalom and giant slalom, born 1 April 1997 in Feldkirch, Vorarlberg; races for SK Rankweil. Made her World Cup debut in January 2016 and reached her first podium in 2019. Broke through emphatically in early 2021: became world champion in slalom at the Cortina d'Ampezzo World Championships - the first Austrian woman to win the slalom title since four-time Olympic medalist Marlies Schild in 2011, denying Mikaela Shiffrin a fifth consecutive slalom world title in the process - then added gold in the inaugural parallel giant slalom event at the same championships, a two-gold haul. A month later she won her first World Cup races and claimed the slalom Crystal Globe for the 2020-21 season (9 races, 8 podiums including 2 wins). Won team gold and individual slalom silver at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics, and slalom bronze at the 2025 World Championships on home snow in Saalbach. Suffered a serious skiing accident in January 2026 that forced her to miss the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics that February.
FIS Code 56388. Career: 3 World Cup wins (all SL), 18 podiums (17 SL, 1 GS). 1 discipline Crystal Globe (slalom, 2020-21). 3 Olympic medals (1 gold - mixed team, 2018) across 2 appearances (2018, 2022); missed the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics after a serious skiing accident in training in January 2026 (Al Jazeera, 2 Jan 2026) - her Wikipedia Olympics record does not list a 2026 appearance, consistent with this.
Sponsors: Rossignol (skis), Lange (boots), Look (bindings), Leki (poles), Uvex (helmet, goggle) - per Ski Austria's official athlete equipment page (skiaustria.at/de/teams/katharina-liensberger, 'Ausruester & Sponsoren'). Ski Austria's federation page is treated as the more reliable, more current source so the boot entry has been updated to Lange accordingly.
