About Jan Zabystran
Czech World Cup alpine ski racer from Kadan, racing for LK Chomutov and specializing in super-G and downhill. Made his World Cup debut on 13 January 2017. On 19 December 2025 he won the Val Gardena super-G by 0.22 seconds over Marco Odermatt from bib 29, becoming the first Czech man to win a men's Alpine World Cup race in the discipline's 60-season history, and the first World Cup win for Kaestle skis since Pirmin Zurbriggen in 1990. Going into that race he had only one top-10 finish in his previous 56 World Cup starts, with a prior career-best of 8th in a Norway super-G the season before.
Name is spelled 'Zabystřan' (with caron) in Czech/Wikipedia sources; FIS and this entry use the unaccented 'Zabystran'. Post-win quote (Kaestle blog): 'Two years ago I dreamed maybe one day I could be in the top 30, maybe have a podium... To have my first World Cup win - and for my country - it's something so beautiful.'
