About Gus Kenworthy

British-American freestyle skier (born in Chelmsford, Essex, England; raised from age 2 in Telluride, Colorado) who competes in slopestyle, halfpipe, and big air, and is also an actor and YouTuber. Won Olympic slopestyle silver for the USA at the 2014 Sochi Games. Switched to compete for Great Britain (his birth nation) starting in December 2019, winning his first gold as a GB athlete in February 2020 (Calgary World Cup halfpipe). Retired after finishing 8th in the halfpipe final at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, calling it his final competition - but came out of retirement for a self-funded comeback and qualified for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics for Great Britain, advancing out of qualifying in 9th (81.25, 81.25) to the halfpipe final. Publicly came out as gay in 2015, becoming (per Rolling Stone) the first openly gay action-sports star; his on-air kiss with then-boyfriend Matthew Wilkas at the 2018 Olympics was widely covered as a milestone LGBT-visibility moment. Ahead of the 2026 Games, he received death threats after posting an anti-ICE message written in the snow.

Won slopestyle silver for the United States at the 2014 Olympics. Came out of retirement and qualified for the 2026 Olympics representing Great Britain.

Sponsors: Monster Energy (confirmed via Monster's own official athlete page, monsterenergy.com/en-us/ski/gus-kenworthy); Backcountry.com (apparel/outerwear - confirmed via National Ability Center coverage of the partnership, reportedly Backcountry's first-ever sponsored athlete for its own outerwear line). No current ski/boot/binding equipment sponsor could be confirmed - a historical Atomic Skis deal (per Wikipedia's own citation) only ran 'through 2014'; secondary reporting (Powder, mid-2025) states his 2026 comeback has been entirely self-funded with no ski-specific sponsor or national-team financial backing as of that report. No ski/boot/binding gear rows added.
