About Amie Engerbretson
American professional big-mountain skier, filmmaker, and podcast host born January 24, 1988, and raised in the Lake Tahoe/Palisades Tahoe area of California. Daughter of former pro skier and ski photographer Jeff Engerbretson. A recurring Warren Miller Entertainment athlete and Teton Gravity Research collaborator, she wrote, produced, directed, and starred in TGR/Protect Our Winters' 2024 climate-advocacy film 'The Hypocrite' after its original director departed mid-production.
Born Jan 24, 1988; raised in Olympic Valley/Truckee on the Palisades Tahoe hill, taught by her father Jeff Engerbretson, a former sponsored skier turned ski photographer/cinematographer who shot much of her career. Pursued competitive ballet through her teens and early 20s (including a 2008 tryout for the LA Lakers Girls dance squad) before pivoting fully to skiing after college. Earned a Media Management degree from Columbia College Chicago (after starting at the University of Arizona). Returned to Tahoe post-graduation, got her first sponsorship from Salomon rep Chris Tiller, then Sessions, and built a career shooting for Warren Miller Entertainment (six-plus film credits from 2015-2021: 'Chasing Shadows,' 'Line of Descent,' 'Face of Winter,' 'Timeless,' 'Future Retro,' 'Winter Starts Now'), Teton Gravity Research, and the all-female film 'Pretty Faces' (2014). The flat 'filmmaker' tag undersells her biggest project: she wrote, produced, directed, and starred in 'The Hypocrite' (TGR/Protect Our Winters, ~2024), a film confronting the hypocrisy of climate advocacy from within a heli-skiing, sled-riding, jet-setting ski career -- taking over as director after the original director could not finish the project. The film screened at ~40 locations and drew both praise (including from pro surfer Kai Lenny) and online backlash. She was named Protect Our Winters' 2021 Alliance Member of the Year, hosts Warren Miller's 'Long Underwear' podcast, survived a December 2014 avalanche burial (fully buried under 3 feet of snow) in the Alta sidecountry that led to a lasting shift in her risk tolerance and backcountry practices, and now runs women-specific 'Women of Winter' ski camps at Palisades Tahoe. She is engaged to fellow pro skier Todd Ligare, with whom she co-runs a ski film tour called Powtown Revival. Sponsored by Atomic (skis and bindings -- her official Atomic athlete page lists the Shift 13 MN touring binding as her gear, but no specific ski model is shown), plus Norrona, Osprey, Palisades Tahoe, Rumpl, Sierra Nevada, Chums, Fatty Smoked Meats, Vuarnet, and Ikon Pass per her own bio page.
