About Alexander Steen Olsen
Norwegian World Cup alpine ski racer specializing in giant slalom and slalom, born 18 August 2001 in Oslo, racing for Kjelsas IL. Won gold in both giant slalom and slalom at the 2022 Junior World Championships in Panorama, Canada. Made his World Cup debut in February 2021 and won his first World Cup race in slalom at Palisades Tahoe on 26 February 2023, adding two giant slalom victories -- the 2024-25 season opener at Solden and a win at Schladming in January 2025 -- establishing himself as one of the few skiers capable of beating Marco Odermatt in GS. Won silver in the team parallel event at the 2023 World Championships in Courchevel/Meribel and was named the men's FIS Longines Rising Ski Star for the 2023-24 season. Missed the entire 2025-26 season, including the Milano-Cortina Olympics, after undergoing knee surgery shortly before Christmas 2025; returned to on-snow training at Kvitfjell in late April 2026.
(Solden, 27 Oct 2024; Schladming, 28 Jan 2025); he also has a third career World Cup win in slalom (Palisades Tahoe, 26 Feb 2023), for 3 total career wins and 5 career podiums (1 SL, 4 GS) per Wikipedia. Directly via FIS's own official Cup Standings database, which lists STEEN OLSEN Alexander as the men's overall Longines Rising Ski Star champion for the 2023-24 season (seasoncode 2024) with 442 points, well clear of runner-up Franjo von Allmen (231). Silver medal, team parallel, 2023 World Championships (Courchevel/Meribel); 2022 Junior World Champion in both GS and SL (Panorama, Canada). Missed the entire 2025-26 World Cup season and the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics after opting for knee surgery in December 2025 -- a decision he told Norwegian broadcaster NRK was 'extremely difficult' in an Olympic season; his GS absence opened the door for former Norwegian teammate-turned-Brazilian racer Lucas Pinheiro Braathen to edge Marco Odermatt for the season's GS discipline title. Returned to on-snow training in late April 2026 with the goal of being 'back next year, stronger and more experienced than ever.'
