About Abby Winterberger
American halfpipe skier from Truckee, California, born May 1, 2010 (Olympic Valley Freestyle Freeride Team); daughter of Jim and Rosemary Winterberger, younger sister of fellow competitive skier Mack. Began in gymnastics before joining a ski team at age six for moguls and halfpipe, shifting focus fully to skiing during the 2020 pandemic. Won the 2023 US Open Class Nationals halfpipe title, then swept both halfpipe and slopestyle titles in 2024. Made her World Cup debut in the 2025-26 season, finishing 7th overall in the halfpipe standings with three top-10 results including a 6th place at the Aspen season finale - the highest finish among American women at that Olympic qualifying event. Selected for the 2026 U.S. Olympic Team directly from club level, bypassing the traditional Rookie/Pro Team pathway; at 15 she was the youngest member of the entire U.S. Olympic delegation and the second-youngest-ever U.S. Olympic selection in freestyle skiing history, after Maggie Voisin in 2014. Finished 15th in the halfpipe qualifying round at the 2026 Milano Cortina Games (72.50), narrowly missing the 12-skier final.
Named to the 2026 U.S. Olympic team as the youngest U.S. Olympian at the Milano Cortina Games, having come up as a club-level athlete outside the usual U.S. Ski Team development pipeline.
